Jan Rowe
Jan Rowe is a senior lecturer in Education at Liverpool Hope University. She holds a BA Honours 2:1 in French, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, Qualified Teacher Status in Modern Foreign Languages and a Masters degree in Education. Her current post at Liverpool Hope University involves course leadership and budget management of the PGCE Modern Foreign Languages Provision on primary and secondary teacher education courses. Prior to this post, Jan worked as an Adviser for Modern Languages and as a Head of Modern Languages in a Secondary School. Previous involvement with European projects includes the Langprim TEMPUS project which sought to promote pan-European perspectives on Early Language Learning. Research interests include: Early language Learning, Content & Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and the use of ICT to support Modern Foreign Languages Teaching.
Maria Herrera-Saavedra
María Herrera-Saavedra is a lecturer in Education at Liverpool Hope University. She is a graduate in Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Education by Universidad de Sevilla. María also studied English Philology. She holds Qualified Teacher Status in MFL in England. At LHU she is a member of the PGCE MFL Provision on primary and secondary teacher education courses. María worked as a teacher and Head of Languages in Spain and as Head of Spanish in a Secondary School in England. Previous involvement with EU projects includes Langprim TEMPUS project aimed at promoting pan-European perspectives on Early Language Learning. Research interests include: Early language Learning, Content & Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and the use of ICT in MFL Teaching. She has been involved in the writing of TDA CPD for Spanish, KS2 Schemes of Work and Training the Trainers for the KS2 Framework.

Carmel Mary Coonan
Associate professor. Coordinator CLIL training projects in Italy (Veneto, Umbria, Friuli, Calabria) over last seven years; director of post graduate in-set CLIL course for secondary school teachers since 2002. Has participated/participates in European projects related to Bilingual education (TNP, ALPME, LLP-CNN). Has written extensively on CLIL and teaching and learning with particular reference to secondary school level. Is national coordinator of a CLIL project financed by the Ministero dell’Università e della Ricerca that focuses on the language issues in CLIL. Primary focus of research interest is classroom-based research in CLIL classrooms.
Diana Saccardo
Head of Secondary school, at present seconded at the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. She is a graduate in Modern Foreign Languages and holds a Masters degree in Education and Professional Development. Collaborates with Laboratorio CLIL on post graduate courses. Ran the Umbria project (2004-2007) in collaboration with the Ufficio Scolastico Regionale per l’Umbria editing the final publication. Will coordinate the think tank group in Umbria.

Katrin Harder
Teacher trainer for the didactics and methodology of teaching English as a foreign language at primary and secondary level; teacher at a primary school (9 hrs per week). Katrin Harder has been involved in a previous Comenius 2.1 project on Foreign Language teaching (“Creative dialogues”, see below); coordinator of three exchange programmes with UK universities (Liverpool, Manchester, Durham); coordinator of the “Berlin-Belfast-Link” (initiative between Belfast Education and Library Board and Berlin Education Authorities), a cooperation between schools and youth clubs in Berlin and Belfast.

Teacher trainer for the didactics and methodology of teaching English as a foreign language at primary level; experiences in training teachers for over 10 years; has been involved in 5 COMENIUS school projects with various European countries as member and coordinator.

José Luis Estefani
José Luis Estefani holds a BA in Anglo-Germanic Studies and a PhD in Foreign Languages. He also has Spanish Civil Servant Status awarded by the Minister of Education and MFL Advisory Teacher Status awarded by the University of Seville. At present, he is Coordinator of the Bilingual Section in Lauretum Secondary School, Seville, and also a Lecturer in MFL for the PGCE course at the Institute of Education, University of Seville. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Education, University of London, doing research on CLIL in 2005. He has worked as a Tutor of Anglo-Germanic Studies at the Spanish Open University in London in 2004 and as a Language and Culture Advisor at the Department of Education of the Spanish Embassy to the UK for 6 years.
Macarena Navarro
Macarena Navarro received her PhD in educational methodology from the University in Seville. She has experience in Initial Teacher Training Education, research interests in language learning and Initial Teacher Education. She is also supervisor of teaching practice periods. She has significant experience of working as a Foreign Language teacher with pre-primary and primary school children age.

Ph.D in Humanities, tutor, researcher and teacher trainer in Teacher Education Department at the Faculty of Polish Studies, UJ; experience in teaching in primary and secondary schools; a former head teacher of the School of Polish Studies for foreigners; visiting professor at the University in Budapest; author of over 70 publications (including books on teacher training and intercultural diversity, and workbooks for grammar and secondary schools).

Liz Fleet
‘Head of Primary Education’ at UCP(M) and studying for an EdD at Nottingham University. Liz worked at Liverpool Hope University for ten years and is now at University of Chester. As Director of PGCE Primary there, she was involved in introducing four European languages as specialisms into the course. As an experienced and skilled primary practitioner, and in her new role at UCP(M), Liz seeks to explore ways in which innovative approaches to language teaching might be introduced to student teachers during their initial teacher education courses.
Pamela Williams
Pamela Williams is currently working as a Visiting Lecturer for the University of Chester and involved in teaching the Language Specialists across the four year primary undergraduate programme, including the preparation of students for a four week placement in Belgium.
Pamela has extensive secondary teaching experience both as an established Languages Co-ordinator and as a skilled practitioner and has particular interest in teaching and learning across primary/secondary (KS2/KS3) transition. She has also co-ordinated school-based, initial teacher education programmes.
At the University of Chester, Pamela is involved in introducing primary languages to all BEd. and PGCE Primary students.
