PhD course on Agrometeorology and Ecophysiology of Agricultural and Forestry Eco-Systems
(coordinator D. Spano)

Doctoral School on Agricultural and Forestry Eco-Systems and Food Production Sciences

Summer School on Climate Change and Agriculture
Alghero, Sardinia – Italy 14 -18 September 2009

Objectives
The aim of the Summer School is to give our doctoral students a wide view of the context of climate change impacts on agriculture, focusing on the most important models and tools. Agriculture is one of the main sectors affected by climate change and there are still uncertainties as to how the combined effects of climate variable (CO2, temperature, and precipitation) affect crop growth and yield. Issues relating to adaptation and mitigation for climate change will also be discussed.

Main topics:
- climate change impacts on agriculture
- adaptation strategies
- mitigation strategies
- adaptation and mitigation: potential synergies

Some of the invited lectures are:
- Ted DeJong, University of California, Davis
- R. Snyder, University of California, Davis
- Arnold J. Bloom, University of California, Davis
- Martin Dubrovsky, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Prague
- Gerrit Hoogenboom, University of Georgia, USA
